Groundwork Merton Update
• Although it was a disappointing
TfL settlement for the Wandle Trail in 05/06, we did secure funding to
re-surface a short stretch of path which links the Tramlink stop at Phipps
Bridge with the Wandle Trail in Morden Hall Park. It is our understanding that
the SWELTRAC team are pressing TfL for the funds to convert the route through
Poulter Park in Sutton to shared-use.
• Progress on the first
Wandle Viewing platform designed by Andrew Sabin is being made. Engineers are
currently checking through the designs and we hope to install the platform and
ramp by this summer. This will be located where the River Graveney meets the
River Wandle. Cyclists may have to lock their bikes at the top of the ramp on
the railings, or go to the platform with bike - in turn!
• Our Community Officer,
Vinny Ganley, has organised a cycle maintenance and safety event for young
people on the High Path Estate. This has been well supported and hopefully will
be repeated elsewhere.

PPP
ride and EEE ride
A ride on Sunday
27th February saw eight cyclists set off from Wimbledon station to explore the
river Crane, very similar to the Wandle valley but running from near Heathrow
to Richmond. We combined a playground stop with a tea stop at the
Dickerage Road play facility where the sports coordinator very kindly supplied
mugs of tea to Fuzz and Mary free of charge and gave us some interesting information
on the running of a very excellent play facility which is always manned by
two youth workers and at present is training a group of youngsters to prepare
them for the London – Brighton bike ride.
We continued across
Kingston Bridge and through Bushy Park to an excellent roast dinner for £4.95 a
head at the Windmill Pub on Windmill Road before heading back in very cold
conditions to explore the River Crane and return via Richmond Park.
Come and join us on
Easter Sunday for an Easter Egg Extravaganza!
